Chanukah Craft, December 2017
On December 11th, Chabad of Hamilton sponsored a Chanukah event for kids and families. We had a great time making menorahs and enjoying stories, music, and latkes. Thank you to everyone who came!
A Grand Celebration and Fond Farewell, November 2017
On November 17th, we celebrated a major room update, funded by the Friends of the Library, and bade a fond farewell to outgoing Director, Hilary Virgil Deskiewicz. Refreshments were provided by the Friends of the Library, including a wonderful book-themed cake, and several community members gave statements thanking Hilary for her service as Director. Thank you to everyone who came and made this such a wonderful event!
Flag Retirement Ceremony, November 2017
On November 6th, 2017, Hamilton Public Library retired the flag from our Community Room in a ceremony led by John Rathbone of the American Legion. The library’s new flag was raised by Mr. Rathbone and the library’s Programs and Events Coordinator, Julia Heller. Mr. Rathbone and other members of the community read short poems about the flag of the United States, and shared in a brief reception with refreshments provided by the Friends of the Library. The new flag was flown in the library’s honor at the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. The library’s old flag will be respectfully burned later this summer.
Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Women Gaining the Right to Vote in NY, 2017
During the month of September the library featured a Women’s Suffrage Exhibit from the New Woodstock Free Library in celebration of the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in NY. We also celebrated with two wonderful speakers. Jody Luce, “The Tailor of Peterboro”, spoke about Women’s Suffrage and the dress reform movement. Madison County Historian, Matthew Urtz, spoke about the roles and impacts of both pro- and anti-suffrage groups locally.
Seasons’ Colors Remembered Art Exhibit, 2017
From September 8th through November 20, 2017 Jon Iannitti’s “Seasons’ Colors Remembered” exhibit was on display at the library. These acrylic paintings reflect Jon’s interest in creating arrangements of color and form. They reveal his continuing desire to experiment with a variety of styles and techniques. The Friends of the Library hosted a reception to celebrate Jon’s work on September 14th.
Felicity Welcome Party, 2017
In September, we welcomed “Felicity”, a colonial girl into our American Girl Doll collection. We created costumes, played games, made crafts, and enjoyed tea.
Hanatsungai-Kai (Flower) Quilt Show Exhibit 2017
In July and August the library’s walls were filled with vibrant silk quilts created by the Hanatsungai-Kai (Flower) Quilt Club from Japan.
Solar Eclipse Viewing 2017
On August 21, we came together as a community to celebrate this amazing event and look forward to the next solar eclipse in April 2024!

Summer Reading Program 2017, Part 2
Mary Albert Watercolor Exhibit, 2017
From May 12th through July 3rd, Mary Albert’s watercolors were on exhibit at the library. Mary was a Hamilton resident for many years and studied watercolor techniques with W. Ralph Murray and Robin Jaycox. Mary continued to paint in Branford, Connecticut, where she passed away in 2013. Her family continues to maintain and reproduce her artwork.
