Chair-ity Raffle

As you may have noticed, the Friends of the Library did not hold their annual book sale this year. While I won’t go into detail about the reasons why that sale was cancelled (I think it was mentioned in a previous column), the Friends still want to raise money for some projects they have lined up to support your library. Starting right now, the Friends are raffling off a chair!

But this isn’t just any chair, this is a custom made traditional hand-crafted high back swivel rocking chair with spindle ornamentation, which comes complete with custom autumnal cushions. (Having typed all that, I suddenly feel like Ralphie from A Christmas Story describing his coveted Red Ryder BB gun, but I digress.)

Built by Custom Woodcraft in Munnsville, the Friends are selling raffle tickets for $5 apiece, and let me tell you, it’s a heck of a comfortable and beautiful piece of furniture. I wish we could keep it here at the library, but it will look just as nice in your home, in pretty much any room you can fit it into! Okay, maybe not the kitchen, unless you have an unusually large kitchen. And also probably not the bathroom, unless, like the hypothetical kitchen mentioned above, it’s an unusually large bathroom.

If you don’t believe me, come take a look at the chair yourself! It’s set up right near our front entrance, and will be on display for the duration of the raffle (a few months).  Just make sure you bring a crisp Lincoln with you (or 5 or 10 to increase your chances) because once you see it, you’ll definitely want a ticket. And in the off chance you don’t like the chair, or don’t think it would be a good fit in your home (impossible, in my opinion), you can give it as a gift! Here’s a tip – if you don’t tell them you won it at a raffle, they’ll think you paid full price for it and just be blown away at your generosity. Think about it!

Tickets can be purchased right here at the circulation desk. That’s all for now, stop in and check out our October events and as always, thanks for reading!
