The wait is finally over – it’s summer time, and you know what that means – time for the Summer Reading Program to begin! What started as a way to keep kids reading over the summer break and combat the dreaded ‘summer slide’ has become an all-ages celebration of literacy, educational programming, and an all-around great time right at your local library!
On Monday, July 1 at 2:30 p.m., don’t miss our Ice Cream Social Kickoff event! Stop by not only for FREE ice cream provided by Byrne Dairy, but also to sign up for the Summer Reading Program itself. Kids that sign up also receive a FREE book, courtesy of the Friends of the Library, and there will also be other door prizes, coupons, and surprises making this a party one you won’t want to miss. Of course, if you do happen to miss our kickoff event, you will still be able to sign up for our program, (and receive a free book while they last) up until the final day of the program on August 26.
Already this year, we have almost 20 local businesses joining in to bring you great raffle prizes, some food at certain events, and sponsoring events. To Broad Street Diner, Colgate Bookstore, Dunkin’ Donuts, Evergreen Gallery and Gifts, FoJo Beans, Good Nature Farm Brewery & Tap Room, Hamilton Eatery, Hamilton Whole Foods, Julie’s Shear Perfection, Kinney’s, Main Moon Chinese Kitchen, Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute, Ray Brothers Barbeque, Rusch’s Bar & Grill, Shol’s Boutique, the Utica Children’s Museum, and Ye Olde Landmark Tavern – thank you so much for your generosity!
Are you a local business that wants to be included on our website and thanked publicly in this newspaper column? Contact me below!
What am I leaving out? Look for tons of exciting programs coming to you in the next two months that go along with this year’s theme, “A Universe of Stories.” Our Events Coordinator claims things are going to be “Out of this world!”
