After a very successful Robotics Open House last Saturday, we’re going to be focusing on some STEAMy activities around here! First, patrons can now check out four different robotics kits from the library. They circulate for one week. Each kit is a little different and intended for kids of differing ages and abilities, but for those in the know, we have a Dash, Sphero, Code-a-pillar, and Jack (a code-and-go mouse). Call the library to reserve a kit or visit our website for more information.
Speaking of Jack, our code-and-go robot mouse, we’ll be having a few events centered around him first. On Friday, March 8, from 3:30-4:00, join us in our Community Room for the first in a two-week workshop. This week, use MakeDo to make a maze out of cardboard. Come back on Friday March 22 to take the robotic mouse through the maze, also at 3:30-4:00 in our Community Room. This event is intended for kids ages 6 and up.
We also have other kits set aside for programs like Bloxels (where you can create your own video game) and an in-house Sphero. Look for more events coming up this Spring and Summer.
While I have you here, is it okay to squeeze a want-ad into this column? I hope so because we really need to find someone great to work here part-time at the library! We’re looking for a friendly, customer service-oriented person to fill in about 15 hours per week at our Circulation Desk. Visit our website and click on ‘Employment Opportunities’ if you or someone you know wants to join our team! We are accepting applicants now through March 15.
That about sums it up for this week, until next time, thanks for reading!
