I hope you’re sitting down, because the numbers from this year’s Summer Reading Program will make you want to jump out of your seat! Please don’t read any further until you find a chair. I can wait.
Let’s start with signups. This year’s program, “Libraries Rock!” saw 255 total participants, up from 134 last year. In addition to setting records for youth signups (ages 0-13), which were up nearly 50% to 146 kids, the number of teen participants is on a steady increase with 38 kids, up from 34 in 2017 and 37 in 2016. The real difference was the addition of an adult Summer Reading Program which, with 71 signups, shot this already record-breaking year into another category.
Our program was most popular among six-year-olds, who saw 22 signups, and we had at least one sign up for most age groups, ranging from 1-84! 78% of our participants were from Hamilton, with Morrisville, Madison, and Sherburne-Earlville making up most of the remaining signups.
Program-wise, we offered 50 events, courses, and activities over the course of seven weeks (not counting our regularly scheduled programming), nearly doubling our offering from previous years. The most popular event was our Kickoff Party on June 25 where 121 of you came for free books and ice cream. Five events saw over 50 attendees – thanks for coming!
Lastly, I want to thank the 35 local businesses and groups that donated over $2,100 in prizes, supplies, and materials to help make this program exciting for everyone. A full list of our business partners can be found elsewhere on this website. Since this blog was written before that website was created, but published after, who knows if there will be a link to this – or even a page to speak of! We’ll see…
While this year’s program was great, we learned a lot about what we can do to make “A Universe of Stories” even more exciting in 2019. You can go ahead and sit back down now. Thanks for reading!
