This summer, there’s something for just about everyone here at the Hamilton Public Library, and many of you have been keeping all of us busy setting up for programs, cleaning up after programs, signing up everyone for our Summer Reading Program, tracking everyone’s progress during the aforementioned Summer Reading Program, and checking out more of our items than ever! And by “ever,” I mean, 19 months, as those are the only statistics I can find at the moment. These high checkouts could be attributed to eliminating late fees in April, automatically renewing overdue items in June, creating a nice, welcoming space for children and parents, or creating engaging programs. Whatever the case may be, thank you for using your library!
Speaking of engaging programs, Friday mornings have been extremely busy with STEAMworks ability labs. Kids under ten years old have been coming in and making circuits, 3D projects, and more, all while learning about chemical reactions, color theory, and textiles to name a few. Stop in any Friday between now and August 10 at 10:30 to join in the fun!
We also have Monday Morning Movies, featuring kids movies that Rock! (to go along with our Summer Reading Program theme, “Libraries Rock!” of course), so Mondays at 10:30 stop in and watch Coco on July 16 and Tangled on July 30, and while we don’t have a movie on Monday, July 23, we have yet another special event – a Dinosaur Dig! Listen to expert fossil hunters Mike and Roberta discuss fossils and then help them dig up some dinosaur bones and assemble a triceratops! This event is limited to 50 people, so make sure you sign up in advance.
Of course we have other things going on during the week, but I’ll save those for another column. Oh, and did we mention that some of these programs feature giveaways? Just by showing up, you can win some awesome prizes. See you when you get here!
