Happy belated Fourth of July!
Our Summer Reading Program is off to a great start! Have you signed up to participate? Just by signing up, reading, and attending programs, you could win some amazing prizes donated by local businesses! Some new businesses that we have yet to thank are: Bueno Tacos, Ego Boutique, Good Nature Farm Brewery & Tap Room, Magro’s (VJ’s) Restaurant, Ray Brothers BBQ, SWANK, The Utica Zoo, and Ye Olde Pizza Pub.
Among the many exciting events we have planned are book clubs for readers of all ages. Teen Book Clubs are discussing “One of Us is Lying,” “Far From the Tree,” and “The Cruel Prince.” Tweens are talking about “All Rise for the Honorable Perry T. Cook” and “The Trials of Morrigan Crow.” Hamilton Central School Librarian Amy Jerome will help lead those discussions. We’re also holding a Teen Writing Club on July 11 and August 1. All of these books are on display at the library, all you have to do is ask for a copy.
But what about adults? We didn’t forget you – we’ll be hosting “What Are You Reading” clubs on July 5 and August 2 at 12:30. All you have to do is show up to trade stories and suggestions for great summer reads! Adults can also attend the first Racial Justice Book Club here on Wednesday, July 18, at 7 p.m. The Hamilton Area Anti-Racism Coalition (HAARC) will lead the discussion about the book “So You Want to Talk About Race” by Ijeoma Oluo. The book is available to checkout here at the library and is on display at the Colgate Bookstore. Get a copy, and come discuss the challenging topics of race, racism, and white privilege. All are welcome to attend.
