I think it’s finally time to talk about it. While not everything is 100% planned, it’s safe to say that the Summer Reading Program is at least on its way, and this is shaping up to be one of our busiest and most exciting yet!
Beginning with our annual kickoff party/ice cream social on June 25, kids who sign up receive their reading trackers and win a prize just for registering! And there’s free ice cream! We’ll have more information once some of our plans are finalized, but if you make it to one Summer Reading Program event, this would be a good one. Although you’ll just want to come back for more once you see what prizes you can win…
Every week until August 10 (our wrap-up party), we’ll have performances from the Utica Zoomobile, Carnival of the Animals, and Dinosaur Dig, plus weekly STEAMworks Ability Labs, Monday Morning Movies, and because the theme is “Libraries Rock!,” we’ll even be giving a lecture series on music with “From Bach to Rock,” taught by our very own Programming Coordinator/musician Julia Heller! We’ll also have Adulting classes for teens, Life Skills for adults, and Book Clubs for all ages!
Did I mention our prizes? Not only will you receive milestone prizes for reading, but raffle prizes as well (tickets can be redeemed by – you guessed it – reading!). So far, 8 Fresh, Evergreen Gallery & Gifts, Hamilton Eatery, Hamilton Whole Foods, Julie’s Shear Perfection, Main Moon Chinese Kitchen, Oliveri’s Pizzeria, Rusch’s Bar & Grill, and The Zen Den have all donated wonderful prizes to our readers, and there’s still many considering donating to our program.
So mark your calendars, everyone, for about seven weeks starting on June 25. You do the reading, we’ll make sure your Library rocks.
