This new year, you can make two simple resolutions to help the environment AND the library – one to recycle and one to donate to nonprofits!
If you’re like me, your garage is slowly filling up with deposit bottles and cans. It might take a month or so, but eventually you’ll have enough to fill the trunk and turn them for a few bucks. But what if I told you that you could donate that money right to the library? And no, I don’t mean by returning your bottles and bringing us the cash – there’s a much easier way. If you go to Caz Cans on Route 12B, you can tell them you want to donate your proceeds to the Friends of the Hamilton Public Library and they’ll take care of the rest!
Starting right now, we have been added to a list of over 50 nonprofit organizations down at Caz Cans that you can donate to directly and they’ll pass that on to us. All you have to do is bring them your bottles!
You may already know that you can donate your profits from bottle returns at Caz Cans to other great local organizations, and if you didn’t, well, now you do! The way I see it, I didn’t know this was an option and I’ve been here for a year, so maybe it’s worth at least reminding people like me who are either new to the area or blissfully uninformed. (Or both!)
Another option altogether and related to the topic at hand, if you’re strolling through downtown Hamilton with an empty, you can drop it off to a donation box in our back entrance. Each month, these are redeemed and donated to the library as well. Who ever thought drinking from deposit bottles could be so rewarding?
